We hired BC Tax to help us resolve a tax debt, and nothing was actually resolved. The first major issue happened when we allowed their partner, Cornerstone, to file our taxes. They filed our federal return but failed to file our state return, and we didn’t find out until the state mailed us letters warning that a lien was about to be placed on us. When we asked about this, it was acknowledged that the state return had not been filed and were told we would need to pay an additional fee for them to do so. After expressing my frustration because filing taxes typically includes both federal and state returns, and that we should have been informed that state filing wasn’t being included. Cornerstone eventually waived the fee and filed the state return. BC Tax then began placing protection orders on our accounts.
Despite BCTAX having power of attorney for a long period, nothing was ever resolved. No payment arrangement was ever set with the IRS, and no options were discussed. The only action they consistently took was placing us on protection holds to prevent levies and garnishments. Whenever we asked about progress, the answer was always that they were “waiting to see what our state payments would be, before working on an agreement with the IRS” even though the state taxes weren’t completed until a year after we hired them. We were repeatedly asked to submit account and income information for the IRS, yet no resolution ever followed.
The way our contract ended was also extremely unprofessional. We were sent a single email—no call, no explanation of next steps—just a phone number for the state hardship department. I had to ask what our IRS status was, and we still never received a clear answer. The only guidance given was that the IRS “will request income verification every so often.” Throughout the process, their tax associate often seemed irritated by my follow‑up questions, and would always reference us as “you folks” in nearly every conversation. However, once asked not to reference us that way she did stop.
Now that our contract has ended, we still have an unresolved IRS balance, no payment arrangement, no clear direction on next steps, and only spreadsheets showing that all they did was request levy protection. We were even told in a conversation where their tax associate and I were both frustrated with one another that they were “working for free,” despite us paying the amount they requested when hired. Apparently their price only covered the initial investigation work, not continued assistance?? “ (I'm still unclear what was meant by that because they continued to work with us and we were never told we owed them money or received any bill). We may not have been their easiest clients because of all the questions and clarification needed but at the end of the day they didn’t hire us, we hired them to help resolve a tax debt. Instead, we are now left searching for actual tax attorneys to finish what BC Tax never truly started. I gave them two stars only because they did place protection orders to protect us from garnishments beyond that, they accomplished nothing other than a temporary fix during the years they were hired and we have the same problem we originally hired them for.

I've had a number of problems that I had needed the help of BC tax. Specifically I worked with Amanda Lira who has been unbelievable in her intelligence and diligence with all matters pertaining to my tax matters. She is maintained constant contact and has updated me at every step of the way and I don't think I would have gotten my way out of this problem without her. To say that she has saved me tens of thousands of dollars and a million sleepless nights is an understatement. I highly recommend BC Tax and Amanda specifically if you have any need for assistance with back taxes or other issues with the IRS.
