Florida Tax Relief Information

Like all states, Florida requires residents to pay certain taxes. While these individuals don’t owe personal income tax, the State of Florida does collect sales, use, intangible and corporate income taxes. Also, individual counties in this state receive much of their funding through property taxes, which vary by county and the property’s value. In some cases, however, you may be able to benefit from tax exemptions that reduce how much you owe.

If you need assistance understanding Florida tax information or identifying exemptions you may qualify for, contact our helpful tax consultants at BC Tax today. We offer tax help for individuals and small businesses in Florida and nationwide. Learn more about Florida tax exemptions you may qualify for below.

Homestead Exemption, Save Our Homes Assessment Limitation and Portability Transfer

Florida’s Homestead Exemption dictates that if someone permanently resides in a property they own, they may qualify to receive an exemption that would diminish its taxable value by up to $50,000. This exemption makes the home eligible for the Save Our Homes assessment limitation, where a homeowner can transfer a fraction or all of the difference to a new Florida homestead.

Property owners or first responders who are senior citizens, widows or widowers, veterans, or active duty military service members or have disabilities might qualify for additional property tax exemptions or benefits. Likewise, buildings with particular uses, like charter school facilities, religious buildings or hospitals, may be eligible for property tax exemptions or benefits.

Fallen Heroes of Family Tax Relief Act

If you’re a surviving spouse of a first responder who died in the line of duty, you could be eligible for a homestead property exemption.

Hurricane Ian Relief

Individuals or businesses affected by Hurricane Ian may qualify for tax relief if they reside or conduct business within the covered disaster area. Individuals or the family members of individuals who visited the covered disaster area and were killed or harmed might qualify for Hurricane Ian tax relief.

Additionally, relief workers who assisted in Hurricane Ian relief efforts and are recognized by a government or philanthropic organization may be eligible for Florida tax exemptions.

Updated Review on 7/1/2025: I have received an email and a call from Nicole who is now working really hard to get the problems mentioned below settled for my husband and myself. She is going to work directly with the IRS (which is a relief for us). I actually feel more comfortable with her than the rest so I am changing my review to a 5 star.

I stared out working with BC tax and felt like I was getting the help I need. They kept needing more and more money. I finally had things settled and was making the payments as I was suppose to. All of a sudden we get a letter that we owe 2,000.00 because we had not been making the payments. No one told me and I didn't realized that everything had to be in my husband's name. I was making the payment out of my bank account and set up the online IRS login was in my name. Then I get a email after I reached to BS Tax on May 29, 2025 about this and and finally received an email on June 30, 2025 from someone other the person helping me that we were in default and that they needed another 1,500.00 to work on our case. Sorriest customer service I have ever had.

After years of basically trying to right a wrong with the IRS including trying to get help from DFAS, The Army Headquarters, the IG of the Army and my senator I was unsuccessful in getting the help I needed after 17 years of being acknowledged as a correct concern. So, I sought professional help from BCTax . Megan Bridge was the primary source of help for me and it was superb. I am rnow straight with the IRS and feel like I learned a lot and am a VERRY satisfied customer.
